In 1978, Gour Kishore Ghosh received the first Koh Jai Wook Memorial Award, established in honour of a former editor and publisher of Dong AIlbo in Seoul, Korea, who was a founding trustee of the Press Foundation of Asia (PFA). Awardees were chosen by the PFA, and Ghosh’s citation read: "as a crusader for freedom of expression of the individual and the journalist."
In 1979 he received the Fuel Instrument Engineering Foundation Award established by Pundit Rao Kulkarni "for his defence of human rights."
In electing Gour Kishore Ghosh to receive the 1981 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts, the Board of Trustees recognised his sagacious courage and ardent humanism in defence of individual and press freedom amidst pressures and threats from left and right.”
